• Defected Owns This Summer

Defected is running this summer and nobody held a vote. Ibiza residency at Chinois, a Most Rated compilation that reads like a hall of fame, and a run of singles that turned TikTok accidents into proper records. Three of the best.

    1. Piem & SLM - Activated

The bass hits like someone dropping a cabinet down a stairwell and the vocal loop latches on in about eight seconds. It started on Barcelona’s Jackies label, went viral when Luke Dean turned it into a TikTok mashup, and Defected made the official version before the hype cooled. Sometimes the internet A&Rs better than the actual A&Rs.

    2. Calle Lebraun - Visions (Jack)

Born as a TikTok mashup of Lebraun’s original and Breach’s “Jack.” Someone smashed them together, the internet ran with it, and Defected legitimized it into a proper release. The original Visions was already a decent house record. With the Jack elements folded in, it gained about forty pounds of low-end and an identity the original never had.

    3. The Martinez Brothers - H2DAIZZO (Josh Baker Remix)

The original was a 2012 vinyl-only white label that fetched over $100 on Discogs because nobody could get a copy. Baker’s remix turns a collector’s piece into a set staple — deep and rolling, a bassline that walks. DJ Mag’s Breakthrough Producer of the Year took a museum exhibit and put it back on the dancefloor where it belonged.

Defected turning internet chaos into official records is the best label strategy anyone’s running right now.

1 minute. Shorter than the average Coldplay intro. Mercifully.
