• Curbi - Caliente

Curbi has been doing this since he was about fifteen, and Caliente sounds like a man who has stopped trying to prove anything and just wants the room to jump. The Dutch producer came up fast on the bass-house circuit and could easily have spent his twenties recycling the same drop, but this one has a looseness the grinding early stuff never had. Caliente leans into a latin flavour, a little spice in the vocal chant and a rubbery bassline that struts more than it slams. The drop is pure elastic bounce, the kind of bass that makes your knees do things before your brain has signed off on it. There is a cowbell in here working serious overtime and I respect its commitment to the cause. Pure dumb fun, the kind this blog has never once had trouble admitting it loves. Curbi clearly enjoyed making it, and that enjoyment turns out to be contagious on a track this unbothered. Turn it up and let your knees decide.

1 min on this. Less time than the wait for the drop in a Coldplay 'banger'.
