Clark with something fresh. Modal Stims is on repeat and I can’t fully explain why. He’s been on Warp Records for the better part of two decades, which usually means “respected, occasionally listened to,” but this one actually grabs. The drums sit in that broken half-time pocket Clark loves, and there’s a detuned synth line that keeps wandering off-key in a way that feels deliberate rather than messy. Warp lifers will hear shades of his older Body Riddle era; new ears will just hear something weird and good. It’s the kind of track that doesn’t announce itself, then you realize you’ve played it four times. Recommended.
