Chozen - Get Em Up

There’s a sound about thirty seconds into “Get Em Up” that I genuinely can’t identify, somewhere between a detuned brass stab and a garbage truck reversing, and it becomes the entire hook. Chozen builds the track around it, and by the first drop you’re nodding along to something that has no business being catchy. This is WAKAAN’s whole thing done right: bass design that sounds broken on purpose, wet and rubbery and mixed to rattle the cheap parts of your car. The second drop switches the groove into a lurching half-time thing that feels like the track tripping down the stairs and landing on its feet. I don’t reach for experimental bass that often because a lot of it is texture with no tune, but this one actually goes somewhere. There’s a real arrangement under the weirdness. It’s stupid in the best way, the kind of track that makes you laugh out loud the first time the drop hits because you didn’t think anyone would actually do that. Filthy and fun.
