BYNX x Télépopmusik - Just Breathe (feat. Angela McCluskey)

Somebody finally gave “Breathe” the reboot it deserved. If you were sentient in the early 2000s you know Angela McCluskey’s voice from the original Télépopmusik track that soundtracked every car advert and every comedown, and BYNX has rebuilt the whole thing for a modern floor without vandalising the memory. McCluskey’s vocal is untouched at the core, that smoky, resigned delivery still doing the heavy lifting, and BYNX wraps it in a bassline that struts where the original just drifted. The genius move is restraint: he leaves the iconic hook mostly alone and saves his fingerprints for the low end and the drums. When the beat finally locks in it feels less like a drop and more like the song stretching awake after twenty years. There’s a sub-bass groove under the second half that gives the nostalgia something to actually move to. I had the 2001 version filed permanently under chillout, and this drags it onto the dancefloor without a hint of embarrassment. Twenty-four years on and McCluskey’s voice still walks into a room and owns it.
