• BlackGummy - Raze (Blood Vision Remix)

Somewhere in a festival tent at midnight, this remix is doing exactly what it was built to do. Blood Vision takes BlackGummy’s “Raze” and pushes it toward the peak-time end of progressive house, all widescreen synths and a build that keeps threatening to detonate. When it finally lands, the drop goes melodic rather than brutal, a big rolling bassline sitting under a lead that climbs and keeps climbing. BlackGummy’s own productions usually sit darker and more mechanical, so hearing one turned this euphoric is a genuine surprise. You lose some of the menace and gain a lot of open sky. The mix is huge without ever getting harsh, which is something mau5trap has gotten much better at over the years. The lead melody is simple enough to lodge on the first pass and pleasantly stuck in your head by the third. Great driving music, ideally on an empty road where the speed limit feels more like a rumour than a rule.

1 minute. Shorter than the average Coldplay intro. Mercifully.
