What does a Joel Corry remix actually change? In the case of Meet Me In The Dark, it strips AVE’s original down to the vocal and bolts it onto a lean dance pump built for maximum daytime-Radio-1 saturation. The vocal is a breathy hook about, you guessed it, the dark, and Corry loops a single fragment of it until it drills in. His remix formula is well established by now, a clean piano-house bounce under a big obvious drop, and he applies it here with the efficiency of a man who has done this a hundred times. The result is undeniably effective and almost entirely weightless, the kind of track that fills a floor and leaves no trace an hour later. I can hear exactly why it’ll do numbers, and I can’t find much in it to actually hold onto. Perfectly nice, perfectly forgettable, and plainly not made for people like me who overthink a three-minute dance record.
