You have heard this exact strain of melodic festival bass a thousand times, so the only real question is whether this one clears the bar, and HAPPY 4 U mostly does. ARMNHMR have been reliable hands in the melodic-bass lane for years, that big-feelings, festival-tears sound living halfway between future bass and trap, and with AVELLO they aim straight for the lighters-up moment. The title is doing the passive-aggressive breakup thing, “happy for you” said through gritted teeth, and the track wisely lets a little of that bitterness leak into what would otherwise be pure uplift. The vocal is the center, chopped and pitched over a build you can see coming from the first bar, and the drop delivers the melodic payoff the genre has leaned on since roughly 2016. That is also the limit of it. There is nothing here you have not felt from a dozen tracks in this exact mold, and by now that mold is more comforting than exciting. It is well made and genuinely pretty and almost completely anonymous. A good version of a sound that stopped surprising anyone a long time ago.
