Golden hour ends and the good part begins. Three tracks for the stretch after midnight, when the melodic techno crowd takes the tent and everyone’s already made at least two choices they’ll be explaining on Monday.
1. Anyma & Grimes - Welcome To The Opera
This is what the after-hours stage sounds like when it fully commits to the bit. Grimes floating over Anyma’s production is genuinely eerie, and the drop arrives like a cathedral being pushed over slowly. It’s built for the 3am version of you, the one that thinks the giant robot visuals are speaking directly to your soul.
2. Fred again.., Skrillex, Four Tet - Baby again..
Three producers who by all rights should cancel each other out, and instead they made the single biggest moment at every festival for two years running. The build goes on so long it becomes almost cruel. When it finally lets go, the whole field goes with it. You already know if you’ve felt this one in a crowd.
3. Barry Can’t Swim - Still Riding
Barry Can’t Swim earns a second appearance this week because he made the perfect comedown record. This is 4am, the lights creeping up, strangers hugging each other goodbye like they’ve known each other for years. Gorgeous and a little bit sad, which is the correct way to end a night.
Sleep it off. The drum and bass is tomorrow’s problem.
