Scorz - Ritus

This one crept up on me. “Ritus” opens as fairly standard driving trance, the sort Armada puts out by the crate, and I nearly tabbed away before the breakdown reached in and grabbed me by the collar. Scorz strips it back to a single held pad and a ticking arp, lets it hang there long enough to feel uncomfortable, then rebuilds with this ceremonial, almost liturgical melody that earns the track its Latin title. The kick underneath is relentless in the good way, a straight four-on-the-floor that stops being something you notice and turns into something you’re standing inside. Trance only works when the euphoria feels earned instead of airdropped, and here you can hear the actual labor of building the tension so the payoff lands like a payoff. By the time the main melody comes back over full percussion I’d quit pretending to do whatever else I had open. Big-room emotional and completely unashamed of it. The kind of track that would lift the roof off a tent at 4am, and probably already has, somewhere I wasn’t cool enough to be.
