Mr Tout Le Monde - Turn Around

The bassline that slinks in at 0:48 does most of the work on “Turn Around,” and I’m completely fine with that. Mr Tout Le Monde makes warm, faintly melancholy electronic pop, the sort of thing that looks like a sunset but grooves hard enough to actually dance to. The vocal is breathy and a little resigned, sitting just behind the beat, giving the whole track an after-hours glow. The percussion stays soft and brushed the whole way through, so the bass ends up carrying the entire groove on its own: rubbery, melodic, walking up and down under everything like it’s the real lead instrument. It reminds me a little of the French touch records from twenty years ago, filtered loops and all, with the edges rounded off for a modern room. Two-thirds through, everything drops out except the vocal and a single synth stab, and it resets the whole thing beautifully before the groove returns. This is built for the last hour of a good night, when the lights are low and nobody wants it to end. I’ve had it on loop while writing this and haven’t skipped once.
