• Joris Voorn - Horizon (Eelke Kleijn Remix)

Two of the Netherlands’ most tasteful producers in one credit is a promising sight, and the Eelke Kleijn remix of Joris Voorn’s “Horizon” lives up to it. Kleijn takes Voorn’s original and stretches it into a long, patient, melodic-house journey. This is a builder, the kind of track that takes four minutes to fully arrive and rewards every second of the wait. It opens with a hypnotic little synth motif and slowly stacks layers on top: a sub that creeps in, a string line that swells, percussion that gathers like weather. The payoff around the 4:00 mark, when the full melody finally blooms, is the sort of moment DJs save for the exact right hour of a set. There’s nothing aggressive here, nothing that demands your attention. It just quietly earns it. This is grown-up dance music, made by people who’ve been doing it long enough to know that restraint is its own kind of drop. The reward is all in the wait.

1 min on this. Less time than the wait for the drop in a Coldplay 'banger'.
