Someone at the party put this on at exactly the right moment and I had to go find out what it was. “Never Let Go” resurrects the Hyper Go Go name, a piece of early-90s UK rave history, and drops that euphoric piano-house energy into a modern trance frame. The piano riff is pure 1992 nostalgia, hands-in-the-air stuff that predates most of the people who’ll dance to it, and the update hands it a cleaner low end and a bigger, more festival-scaled drop. It’s unapologetic feel-good music, the kind of track that only works if you commit to it completely. There’s a diva vocal sailing over the top that ties the whole thing back to a lineage of rave anthems going back thirty years. I’m a soft touch for this exact strain of piano euphoria and this pushes every one of those buttons. Sometimes the old formulas are old because they work.
