Flux Pavilion has been at this long enough to qualify as somebody’s nostalgia act, and Righteous Valkyrie is him refusing the role. It teams him with Franky Nuts, the Dutch producer who has spent recent years making bass music meaner and more digital, and the collision of those two instincts is the whole point. Flux came up building the big, almost melodic dubstep that got the genre onto festival stages in the first place; Franky Nuts drags that sensibility somewhere nastier. You can hear both hands on it, a lead line with actual tune to it riding a low end built to move serious air. The title is pure heavy-metal cosplay and the track earns the camp, all valkyrie-charge momentum and no apology for it. What keeps it from feeling like a legacy lap is how modern the sound design is, how clean and brutal the drops land next to the slightly soupy stuff Flux was making a decade back. Two generations of the same genre agreeing on what hits hardest. It is loud, it is a little ridiculous, and it does not care what you make of either.
