Citadelle - Ghost

Ghost snuck up on me during an unremarkable afternoon and improved it without asking. Citadelle work a slick, melodic strain of house that sits right on the line between club track and something you’d hear on daytime radio without wincing. The groove is clean and propulsive, a bouncy bassline under a vocal chopped into a ghostly little hook that haunts the drop, presumably the whole point of the title. The vocal itself is barely there, a breath more than a lyric, looped until it feels like the room remembering someone rather than a singer actually performing. It’s bright and polished and built for maximum ease of listening, the kind of thing that soundtracks a good mood you didn’t realise you were in. There’s a plucky synth riff in the second half that’s borderline too catchy, the sort you’ll catch yourself whistling in the shower with no memory of learning it. Easy and bright and gone before it overstays its welcome. My good mood and I both approve.
