Who names their project “josh and sam who are twins” and then makes something this fragile and this good? “coherence” showed up via MrSuicideSheep, which has been a reliable filter for exactly this kind of small, emotional electronic music for well over a decade. It’s built from soft, granular synth textures and a vocal from Cephas Azariah that sits low and close, more murmured than sung, the whole thing playing like a 3am voice memo someone was finally brave enough to release. The percussion is barely present, a few muted taps and a sub that pulses under everything. This is the opposite of festival music; it’s headphones-on-the-last-bus-home music, the sort of track that finds you at a specific hour and then refuses to leave. About two-thirds of the way in it opens up into a fuller chord progression that lands like a held breath let go at last. Names this goofy usually signal a certain preciousness, and instead you get something with real weight to it. It found me at exactly the right hour, and I’ve played it six times since.
