AVAO has been one of the names riding the hard techno wave that’s swallowed the underground over the last couple years, and “Bad Behaviour” is exactly as advertised. This is fast, loud, and slightly unhinged, the soundtrack to a warehouse where everyone’s wearing black and nobody’s checking the time. The kick is relentless, that pounding 150-plus BPM stomp that’s either your favorite thing in the world or a headache depending on your tolerance. For me it’s the former, at least in the right setting. Revealed putting this out shows how far the bigroom label has drifted toward the harder, faster end of the spectrum, chasing where the kids actually are now. The hook is simple and mean, designed to be screamed back rather than sung. There’s not much subtlety here and that’s the entire point. Hard techno isn’t trying to soundtrack your dinner party. It wants your knees gone by 4am. Play it when you need to get the blood moving, ideally somewhere with a fog machine and questionable ventilation. AVAO knows his audience and serves them well.
