This was the era right before TikTok existed, when a thirty-second clip of a cat doing approximately one bit was the entire content economy on Facebook and Vine. Somebody’s cat was screaming about something and the whole household was filming it and the comments were a thousand people writing out what they thought the cat was saying. It’s a genre. It is honestly still the best genre. Cats have not stopped having opinions in the years since — the platforms just got better at recommending them.
