Happy Fourth of July from a blog that does not actually live in America. The Canadian perspective on the Fourth is mostly watching neighbours on Instagram set off fireworks that would absolutely be illegal here, then refreshing the feed for the inevitable hand-injury updates. 2015 was a quieter version of the holiday than recent years have been — Obama still in office, the country not yet fully on fire, the discourse about whether to celebrate at all not yet the annual Twitter ritual it would become. Anyway. If you grill something today, grill it well. If you set off something explosive, count your fingers before and after. Posting this mostly for the archive — the original embed is long gone.
